VISC-ASI™ Study
Increasingly drug products are being offered as “sustained release” formulations, which provide the benefit of less frequent injections for patients. However these sustained release formulations are often viscous – requiring greater force to achieve an acceptable injection duration, using a narrow gauge needle. This need to apply greater force can result in difficulties for patients who may face challenges associated with dexterity, strength or motor function. Although the assistance of a disposable autoinjector can help overcome these challenges, the use of high forces can result in breakage of glass syringes, with the consequent risk of injury to patients. The VISC-ASI™ disposable autoinjector is specifically designed to enable automated self-injection of viscous drugs. The proprietary Syringe Protection System of the VISC-ASI™ protects glass syringes against the risk of damage from the application of high forces.
Data generated by Bespak Injectables in a study using VISC-ASI™ to deliver a range of liquid viscosities through different needles is summarised below.
